The Problem With Daytime TV October 15th, 2010

admin

I don’t usually have time to watch day time television anymore, but from my student days I can really see why people see it as a bit of a joke. On BBC 1 there’s an endless stream of antique and real estate shows, all very similar to the next. ITV have chat shows, and now their new shoq with Adrian Childs which doesn’t seem to have taken off. Then there’s Loose Women, and the less said about that the better.

Jeremy Kyle has to be one of the most ridiculous shows ever to clog up our TV screens. A constant stream of people with emotional problems enter the stage, only to be slated and humiliated by Jeremy, before being sent backstage to get “help” from the rest of the team. It really is TV of the lowest common denominator.

The antique shoes aren’t much better. I can understand one antique show during the day, but they seem to be endless. I understand they are cheap TV to fill up the airwaves when most people aren’t watching, and maybe they are what daytime viewers want, but it’s difficult to see how they can provide much entertainment. The same goes for house buying shows, surely people get bored of endless talk about buying houses?

Aside from chat and antiques shows, you also have the choice of watching repeats of Friends or a 24 hour news channel. The only good thing about daytime TV is that I rarely have to watch it!
